Celebrating Transphobia Month: Patient 22

A man’s entire existence is in peril, he may be suicidal, or he may not, but each day he teeters on the brink of collapsing in on himself. He is mentally disturbed, and someone with advanced knowledge of psychotherapy must intervene, pronto. Our society’s best and brightest have conferred and the only humane treatment for this patient is to indulge his delusion. Pretend he’s OK.

Patient 22

He will only be identified as patient 22, for now anyhow, until we address his debilitating affliction. It seems that 22 feels his male body, appendage and all, has held him hostage since he was a creepy little kid. Although the protocol is for an impartial professional to advise him, in 22’s case, it is he who will prescribe what measures must be taken.

Patient 22 has convened with his younger sister and his college roommates in the serene climate of his safe space and assesses she’s a woman whose trapped inside a man’s body. Now, common sense dictates that 22 hasn’t an inkling of what it’s like to be a female, and considering so is an affront to legitimate femininity.

With that said, patient 22 and the other thousands like him will require that the other 300 million of us alter our reality to align with their fragile psyches. We must unwind thousands of years of social structure and legislate new procedures to accommodate this micro-fringe group within our populace.

Transphobia Month

Only a few short Presidential Administrations ago, patient 22’s situation would have elicited repulsion and laughter. It seems that the subsequent generations to Gex X, however, have veered sharply off the rails. Instead of a course correction and dire warning for this perilous detour, it’s been uploaded to MapQuest.

If the majority of the population continues to coddle this specific mental disorder or any others, we will all reap the whirlwind. Ironically, Western tradition and its heroic lineage all spurn the ire of the trans movement, but the West is their only safe refuge. These frail-boned beings couldn’t exist outside of an insulated environment, even in some places around the United States.

Transitioning and surviving cannot coexist in any society, and this is why transphobia is not intolerance, but rather an innate survival mechanism. This is also why, here in Traumaville and beyond, we continue to acknowledge….
